um... if you are saying that more fluid is a bad thing, that would be incorrect...
the more fluid there is, the more the heat load is distributed in the volume of
fluid, and the easier it is for the cooling system to manage the temperature
down....
I just did this mod (with the 2008+ new filter) and instead of the Ford stamped
pan, I used this cast pan (link below) .... yes it sits a little lower, but holds 4 more
quarts, and has a machined flat sealing surface... you will need to use a flat gasket
with it, do NOT reuse the stock molded gasket
This is what you will need (if you buy the case of 12 quarts Mercon SP, you will
be left with about 2 quarts when done with drain and refill):
PML 11049 Cover with new longer hardware $249
Fel Pro 18714 Flat Gasket $17
Motorcraft 8C3z7a098d NEW 2008+ internal trans filter $44
Motorcraft FT145 filter (keep the pre 2008 housing) $22
Magnefine M010CC Filter added to the trans fluid cooler line $34
Case of 12 quarts Mercon SP $66
Parts total = $432
Be sure to use "Fuel Injector Type" hose clamps on the Magnefine filter,
instead of the supplied standard type... you can get en entire assortment,
or just get two, or ask your installer to substitute the better clamps
Fuel Injector type clamps assortment $14
.
