I installed a PML pan on my Winnebago View (Mercedes transmission) and am very happy with it. Naysayers on the Sprinter forum were concerned about my ground clearance. I pointed out to them that I had some eleven inches and the pan was way above the front suspension crossmember, and above the transmission crossmember also. These truck chassis have lots of clearance, unless you are four wheeling, the extra deep pan is not a real issue, it probably only extends about a inch and a half or two inches below the original pan. If you want to be sure, measure the distance from the flange on the case to the bottom of the pan. The PML pan is 6ΒΌ inches below the flange.
As noted, the additional volume of fluid will aid in keeping the transmission cooler. The aluminum pan also provides a place to install a temp sensor (optional, you have to specify the boss to be machined when ordering) but I did read that this transmission has a port for a temp probe (I think).
