Ford or chevy is a Religion to many folks.. I go to the church of Chevy (Workhorse) myself. Nuff said.
I could go into the details, but the facts are as follows.
The Ford engine is only 15 HP more than the GM but it hits that higher power at a much higher RPM, TORQUE is the same for both (peak torque) but again the Ford needs more RPM. (you need peak Torque at lower RPM) In theory the higher RPM of the ford engine means a shorter life,, but that is theory, in practice, not much difference far as I know.
This is the biggy though
Bolted on the back side of the 8.1L Chevy Vortec engine in that Workhorse is just about the nicest transmission made, An ALLISON.. Want the nicest.. Well the 2006 Allison is better than the 2005, But again, only slightly.
When you ask who makes the best Tranny... The answer is ALLISON!
