ford v10 programmer?

Anyone use a programmer for their gas engine? Is it worth it? I want to see if I can fix the down shifting so bad on overpasses. Thinking a programmer might help?
  • We got the 5 Star tune a few months ago. It directly addresses the downshift challenge effectively. I feel it was money well spent.
  • There are computer add on's that allow you to change shift points. I think 5 Star is a recommended unit. I'm thinking about getting one so it doesn't downshift so fast in tow haul with just a tap of the brakes.

The V-10 is a high revving engine and I have been advised that the engine's computer will not allow it to over rev.

Here's a couple of places you may want to check out:

    Good luck & safe travels...:)
  • Sounds like lots of people have the downshifting problem. So do I. I can't stNd it when it starts "screaming" I just slow down and slowly up shift and down
  • what I did was wire a switch in to lock up the torque converter when I got going over 40 mph or so (obviously dont try and idle like that).

That stopped all of the downshifting spasms.
  • That's the thing its flat where I travel. I'm talking about slight hills into overpasses and it goes crazy with the downshift.
    I am going 65.
  • what speed are you trying to maintain. I live in the South West and our hills are from 5 to 10 thousand feet. I do around 45 mph at 3500 rpm in second. 5000 rpm to me would be way to much. We have a lot of weight to be carried up that hill.
  • Yah when I'm towing going up just a minor grade its going to 5000 rpms. Can't be good
  • I had the same problem on my 2011 coach. I took it to a Ford dealer as it was new, and he put it on the computer and reprogramed it. I have no idea what was done, but it doesn't down shift into low as much when I am making a long grade. It still will do it, but from talking to other V10 owners, it must be the way it is designed.
