Keep in mind that the V10 is a favorite for gas powered motorhomes and is offered in the F750. It is a tough engine. It may not keep up with the modern diesels but it will get you there. Mine was in a van so it only had the two valve heads it never gave me any issues.

Good truck & choice. 5 Star tune & good headers are money well spent for power or economy.

Its only got 111K. What year is yours? The truck does see alot short hauling and idling time in the field (farm).My suspicion is leaking valve steam seals. Ford uses rubber ones that get firm/ harden and leak as the engine gets older. I have had to replace them on other Ford trucks I have owned. Had one that would burn a quart a week under hard use. A set of $12 dollar valve stem seals and the thing does not burn a drop now and truck is nearly 30 years old. If I have to tear into this V-10 for some reason Ill do the seals but for now the qt of oil between changes is easier, lol. Plugs arent fouling and look great.

Good solid trucks and capable of towing 14k when set up right, from a suspension and chassis standpoint.
The V10 will get er done and will last a long time without complaining, but don't expect it to pull grades, or even flat road like a diesel. If you're pulling a say 4-6% grade, expect to drop to 2nd gear wound up to maintain speed.
I've never towed with them at low altitude, only high altitude, so the effect was magnified by the 20-30% less power compared to the OE ratings, but you'll still be working it at 100% output on any hills. Expect 6-8 mpg.

All that said, they are one of the best gasser combos out there, still, IMO. And 05 is past the spark plug spitting era and has the 5 speed torq shift. In my experience it doesn't give up much if anything to the 6.2s in the '11-16 models. Have towed a bunch with both.
Personally though I wouldn't want to tow 14k regularly with any gasser truck, new or old, if a better option was in the cards.
However, local trips or at least east of the Rockies, it'll work. Head to the mountains and you'll not be real happy.

Should work. Put it in tow haul and drive it like a rental. The engine needs to rev to create power so don't be afraid of 4-5000 rpms climbing some hills.

My 02 X unloaded highway is 14 with the 4.30’s, when it had 3,73’s I could get 15. Towing mileage is upper 7’s.

Being an F-250 and depending on suspension mods it may or may not have, you may need airbags or something like Timbrens or maybe even an add a leaf to handle to tongue weight and not squat to much. Mileage will be abysmal! A great and dependable engine but thirsty she is. With your weights think 5-8 mpg depending on terrain, weather conditions, and how heavy your right foot is while towing. Unloaded probably 10-12ish and maybe slightly better highways with a gentle foot.

The F250 and F350 SRW were the same back then except for a 2” taller rear axle block and upper overload springs. If the F250 has the camper package option, it has heavier rated front coils, rear stabilizer bar and identical F350 rear suspension but still sits on the 2” shorter blocks.

*2003 was the start of 5R110 transmission that replaced the 4R100. 2005 was when the 3-valve version of the V10 was introduced and may be when they adopted the 5R110 in the gasser.
