Both Ford and GM have had "issues" of one kind or another over the years but in truth, there is not a lot of difference.
Both the Ford Triton V-10 and the 8.1L Vortec delivered exactly the same peak torque. but see notes below
The Ford claimed something like 15% more HP (Not enough to notice).
Note however that the FORD engine hits peak Torque at a much higher RPM, and you need TORQUE at lower RPM (Because torque, not HP is what gets you rolling)
And likewise the Ford engine HP rating was taken at a higher RPM.
Ford engines generally run "Faster" (higher rpm) for any give speed than the GM ones do.
In **THEORY** this means ford bearings may wear faster.
in practice.. you might not notice the difference.
So I'm not willing to call one better than the other.
HOWEVER... The engine is only the front end of the drive train. Right after the Engine comes the Transmission..
And if you ask who makes the best transmission the shouts of ALLISION will clearly drown out all competition, for they are the best, Even Ford says the Allision is best (They called one of their transmiossion "The answer to Allison" so even Ford is admitting the superiority of Allison)
And Allison transmission bolt directly to (among others) GM engines, they don't fit Ford without an adapt-a-kit.
