Regarding low speed off-pavement travel with a (stock) Ford based Class C: Note that the lower differential ratio of the E450 over that of the E350's differential ... makes for better off-pavement crawling with the E450 chassis.
Regarding the ground clearance of Class C RV's: When buying, look underneath for low hanging stuff - for example, no low sewer pipes or built-in generator undersides allowed. After you own it, you don't have to keep the common 225/75R16E tires on it ... you can keep the 16 inch rims but switch to 215/85R16E tires (believe it or not, 215/85R is taller than 225/75R) or better still for even more clearance, switch to 235/85R16E tires.
