Four winds Motorhome

I am interested in purchasing a 2011 Four Winds model 28A motorhome for $45,000 from camping world. It is 28 feet long with 17000 miles. Is this a good motorhome and is this a good price? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • My first class C was an 07 28A. It was a pretty good RV, but like most have stated it is "Entry level". I don't regret buying it, because we were unsure how often we would actually use it. Since we use it about 20 times a year, it was worth it for us to move up to one with a little more room and a few more features.

I loved the layout. It was great for 2 people. The TV was in a great location and I like the dinette and couch being on opposite sides of the coach. I also was pretty happy with the Chevy 6.0L. We got about 9-9.5 mpg's when towing our Jeep. I don't know that I would have wanted to try any pull a Jeep in the mountains with it, but for driving around Texas, it was great. We drove it for 5 years, with minimal problems.

We eventually traded ours in on a Sunseeker. One of the best things about the Sunseeker verses the Four Winds was the solid fiberglass roof and fiberglass front cap on the cabover. As you probably know the worst problem you can have is a water leak. We had to replace the rubber roof on our Four winds at $3,000, and we also got a leak at the seam on the front corner of the cabover.

We also got ducted air with an actual thermostat controller.
  • I too have a 28A Fourwinds class C. chevy engine and chassis. I have had no issues, bought new , and currently have 49000 miles on it. i wouldd advise before buying ANY used class C you look it over carefully, be aware that leaks are a major concern, especially in the cab over area.

  • I have a 2005 Four Winds 28A. I like it, it is an entry level MH. I have had no problems with the quality and it is still serving me well after 45000 miles. I understand there have been some changes since mine was made.

I question the price. Mine cost me less than that back in 2005. Of course $45,000 was worth a lot more 9 years ago.
  • I think that price is way out of line. Without doing too much looking I found this new 2014 28A for something under $53,000.

By the way, it's almost 30' long.
  • I just looked at a new freedom elite 23u at my local camping world. I climbed into the cab over bed to see if it was comfortable. On the ceiling were several small water stains by the trim strip. Salesman said the motorhome had just arrived. Poor factory quality control. Too bad as i like the floorplan.
  • On the surface...yes.
You did not say what year it is.

However, there are many low millage RVs, because
    most owners are not full-time.

Inspect carefully or have a professional inspection done.
The basic motor/frame will give no more problems than that
    combination from that manufacturer.

The coach is a combination of work from Four Winds and the
components used. The good things is most systems are off the shelf
systems. These are used by most every manufacturer.

The roof, electrical, plumbing and tires -not over 10 years old
(search DOT site for code reading) are major areas to look at.

Go slow. Do not let emotion take over.

Then if it is right for you, after you drive and inspect, enjoy.

A general answer is that Four Winds products are at the low end of the average quality range. However. They are built on the same Ford E450 chassis as the higher quality C's and probably have the same, or similar, appliances, A/C, etc.
It's a matter of how things are put together.

There is far more trash then quality out there so spending a few dollars to get impartial advice might be a good decision.

    Enjoy your travels.
