Franklin Trailer

If anyone is wondering if it is worth the time, labor and money to save an old RV. Read my story. A friend of mine had a log chain wrapped around an old camper and then the chain was hooked to a tree. He said he was going to drive his truck forward and rip off the camper and use the frame for a hauler. I undid the chain and peeked inside since the outside was near mint. Beautiful oak and birch cabinetry, no water leaks, just needed a good cleaning. By the outside door was an Award Winning Design emblem that was metal. I gave him $50.00 and told him to go rent a trailer when he needed it. Brought home a turquoise and white 1966 Franklin Camper 20' footer. Needed the bulb repaired in water heater. Found a man who did aluminum welding, worked great. No leaks or signs of past leaks. Needed a Thetford toilet. The original porceline SeaBreeze was broke. Sleeps 4 comfortable. Hot shower is the best. Not a chip or scratch in the sinks and stove tops which are Sea Green/Turquois in color. Odd thing is, that the door opens toward the tow vehicle. I was worried the door would leak traveling into a rain storm, but it was like a vault. Everything works, everything! I get thumbs up and smiles wherever we go. We have camped in it since 2000. Save an old camper. You'll feel good.
  • Great find, does need pics but this is a Class A forum. There is a TT, Vintage TT forum as well.
  • Great save.... vintage trailers are becoming more and more valuable. Some RV Parks are using them as rental cabins for "Glamping". Folks are putting them in their backyards to use as a guest house/studio/office or for a "staycation".

There's a new reality program on called "Flippin' RVs". It follows a vintage trailer restoral business in Oregon.
