HELP needed about Franklin Trailer ..

Hi everybody , Im based in the United Kingdom, and sometime ago have purchased a large trailer ( large by our standards :),an old banger, and ....dont know what the hell it is except for its name , Franklin. Wonder if there is anybody who could help me with where can I obtain any paperwork/manual etc etc for that very type . Or maybe there is a "Franklin owners club" etc ? . The reason Im so desperate is that need to workout the breaks, heating.

  • HI , just looked at some films on YouTube about the brakes. Brilliant idea, and why dont we have it here in Europe I dont know??
Anyway now I guess I will have to start a new thread which is : how to install a break controller,so thanks for all the posts. Tomek
  • Just found the wiring of Bargman plug so can start experimenting on those breaks. Now, but who manufactured them ?? :/ :) Tom

  • Hi Guys , just took the drum off and took a photos of the break mechanism and the plug .( http://picasaweb.google.com/onski07) Wonder if there is anybody who recognizes the manufacturer of the brakes , and regarding the plug , is negative the center one?
BTW, here in Europe we dont have that type of "inventions" you have out there :)). Tomek
  • As was mentioned above, the manufacture of most trailer put out a very generic manual which is usually pretty useless. The manuals for all the appliances and running gear are usually covered by separate manuals.

I suspect that the running gear for your trailer may be made by Dexter. You can most likely get a manual or information about it here.
    Dexter Axle website.
Another manufacturer of trailer axles is Lippert.

As far as the appliances, furnace, water heater goes, we have a member of the forums who has his own RV service company. He has provided a very useful website with downloadable manuals for most of the ones used in RVs. You can look up the name and model number of yours and then find the documents for them here.
This is his website for any additional help you may need.

    Hope this helps you out.

  • I know you were hoping to find someone with a direct link to what you need, but this isn't as complex as you might think it is. As I said, the brakes and heating are made by 3rd parties, not Franklin. When trailers are new, each component comes with its own manual and warranty information. At least that's the case here in the US. The trailer manufacturer does not provide technical info in its own documentation for 3rd party components other than care and basic maintenance of the parts it puts together.

Find out who made your axle and most likely you can find out more about the brakes. Axles are usually installed as one component with the brakes already attached. I believe that most axles have the manufacturer name stamped somewhere on the axle.

Same for the heat. Atwood and Suburban are the most common heater manufacturers I know of. You should be able to find out which by taking off the heater cover on the inside.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but given that the trailer manufacturer is out of business, your task of getting information is going to be a bit of a pain. I wish you the best on this!
  • Thank you for your reply, but it is the technical data I need to get. Main concern are the brakes and heating . Tom
  • Clickable format!

I believe Franklin Coach is out of business. They used to sell a lot of trailers here in the states. We still see a lot of them, especially in seasonal sites.

The good news is that even if you can't find a manual, the construction of aluminum sided trailers is relatively the same across the board. More important is that components like brakes and heaters are made by 3rd parties and are generally easy to replace or get parts for. In other words, aside from specifics related to your floor plan there is not too much unique to it being a Franklin.
