Fresh water pump issues

Water pump in our Winnebago Vista cycles on and off rapidly making a chattering noise. Dealer replaced the pump and still have same problem. Adjusted pressure on pump and still have the same problem. Occasionally, pump will work normally for a few seconds then revert to rapid cycling. Any ideas on what the cause is?

Thanks to all who share their knowledge.
  • Ours does that when we fail to change the setting from "city" to "tank" setting when using the pump.

It's either sucking air upstream of the pump or a clogged/pinched line downstream of the pump.

As asked above, does it do this when you are running water or when every thing is shut off ?

  • It sounds like the pump is sucking air on the intake side. Look for a leaking valve/pipe where you fill the water tank.
  • A leak somewhere..... There is a check valve in the pump that should prevent pressure from leaking back to the tank. You replaced the pump so it's very unlikely you had 2 with the same problem. The pressure must be leaking down somewhere in the coach. Ice maker line? Washing machine?
  • The pressure switch that causes the pump to run is located in the pump itself. Since the pump was changed, that means the pressure switch was changed also. Nothing left to be the problem. Strange. Maybe there is a leak in the water system. Could be anywhere including shower and sink faucets, or maybe the commode.
