Fridge & LP/Power

My 99 Fleetwod Discovery DP, when camping runs on LP. When I got home I hooked the MH to my house for power. My MH is on 30 watt. The appliances are lit up and running. What may cause the fridge side does not feel cold. Freezer side seems to be getting cold. What could be going on??

Actually the principal is the same on all cooling processes. It is the removal of heat. That is why there are coils on your compressor refrig, to get rid of the heat.
  • Doug Rainer will post I'm sure, but I don't think rv fridges have freon. They cool with ammonia.

Conversations I've had with Norcold indicate 40 degrees is within satisfactory limits.
  • My 2000 southwind fridge will only get down to +15 in the freezer and +40 in fridge on 110 and about 5 degrees warmer in both on gas??? This is set to the lowest setting.
    Thanks Steve
  • Thanks for info, will leaving for weekend will fill LP to max and will see how fast will cool.

    1. 30 AMPs not watts:B
    2. ALWAYS give 24 hours for a complete cool down on a RV absorbsion refer.
    3. The freezer is the first section of the cooling coil and will show cold first.Doug

They do not cool quicker on LP. They DO start the process quicker on LP for the first 15 minutes. Then the 120 element/s are up to full heat on the flue to supply the same BTU for cooling. Doug

  • Depending on how long you had the system off it can take 12 hours to re-cool down. Freezer cools first and then the fridge . Read this from Bryant and you will get a better understanding of how the system should work. Also a good troubleshooting guide there also

  • Bad electric heating element, bad control board are the first two suggestions.
