My personal suggestion is that you run the fridge on propane anytime that you don't have external power coming in to keep the batteries charged. The fridge uses so little propane that you could go through an entire year with the fridge running and likely not use a 20# bottle. The propane is also more efficient but if your electric to keep the batteries charged is free (like while driving) this would be a moot point. If you are on shore power you would be on 120V so we are really only talking about dry camping during periods without external power and for that situation the only thing that makes sense (to me....no flames, please.) is propane.
