We park our RV at home and it's always plugged in. When we had our Norcold, we would empty it after each trip, turn it off and leave the doors ajar, unless we had plans to go again in less than a week. The day after the trip, I would use one of the kitchen hand towels to absorb the water out of the icemaker and then wipe down the interior with the same towel. Both on propane or electric, RV refers operate by heat. I don't know if I would leave an RV refer running unnecessarily.
For the past 4 years we've had a residential unit. We leave it run 24/7 just like we do in our house. That's another nice feature about he residential unit, you can safely leave it running with food items, like condiments.
