Front end alignment cost??

Thought it would be a good idea to have a front end alignment on our new 2015 Excursion (3500 miles) before our next trip in a few weeks.
Got a quote of $320.00. Seems high. Haven't had one done in 10 years. Is that the going rate( more or less)?
  • mine cost 100 bucks.
and the reason I had it done is because Ford never aligned them in the first place.
I was told that they didn't know what would go on top of the chassis and depending on what was added (weight distribution) would affect it.
So, I did get it done, felt like cheap insurance for 1200 dollars worth of tires.
and yep, 320 sounds high but not sure where you live either.
  • I don't know what chassis you have but Freightliner paid for my first alignment with about the same miles on it.
  • What makes you think you need an alignment? Never had one in 12 years on my RV. No tire or ride issues.
  • Call around for prices. Get the alignment checked at least. I wore out a set of tires on the front by not having the alignment courtesy check done, which was offered by the manufacture (Workhorse). The original alignment was done on just the bare chassis, not after the coach was put on the chassis with all that went with it weight wise.

Cost in Alaska 7 years ago was $180.oo
  • The equipment is not cheap, but I do think they are a little over priced, to the tune of $100 +/-. My last one was at Purcell Tire in Yuma and it was $165 for a complete all wheel laser alignment and adjustment to the toe setting.
  • My last one was several years ago and it was a 4 wheel laser alignment. It was $150.00 back then. I tried to get one done at the same shop a couple of days ago and their equipment was down. I didn't ask the price, but I'm guessing it's been bumped up to about $200.00. I think $320.00 is out of line.

I applaud you for getting the alignment checked, but your coach is still new, make sure you have everything loaded where you want it so that your weight distribution is where you want it.
  • While I don't have a MH $320 does not sound that bad as a alignment on cars and light trucks runs around $80 with tax in my area. JMHO

Are you sure that they are not quoting a four wheel thrust angle alignment?
Also once they check your front end alignment, it may be fine and they may not have ANYTHING to adjust at all. Perhaps you should ask to be there when they check it just to see if it really does need to be aligned. Naturally you will have to pay to have it checked but if nothing needs adjusted, you should not have to pay full price.
