I have removed my gas tank three times. It's very easy. I can have mine on the ground in under 30 min. I use a motorcycle jack under the tank and the less fuel the better.
Hey - I have an '84 P30 Allegro. It has a mechanical fuel pump, but the rubber lines at the top have deteriorated to the point where neither the engine nor generator fuel pumps can suck fuel out of the tank. They need replaced.
In an attempt to drop the tank, I removed both straps. The thing won't budge. Is it attached anywhere else? Mines covered in a foam insulation so I can't see if there are other bolts.
Also, it appears as if the tank won't drop down without removing the filler tube, which is clamped INSIDE the frame rail. I cut a hole in the floor and can now get at the clamp, but the lines I need to replace are clamped directly beneath the bathroom door and I can't reach them. I'd rather not hack any more holes in the floor and would like to continue dropping the tank.
Also - where is the sender on a truck without an in-tank fuel pump?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
