replacing onan fuel pump

Fuel pump I'm looking for is 149–2267 there seems to be other models that are anywhere from $50-$80 each for some reason the cheapest price I could find for mine is $225 does anyone know of a replacement or a universal model that can be used it's a 1998 coachman Mirada that has an onan /cummins generator

  • We have a GC4000 Onan generator that came with our Forest River Forester 2551DSLE.  It's not been reliable at all. The engine failed at about 100 hours after follow all scheduled maintenance.  Cummins replaced the engine under warranty and it ran well for about 8 hours. Then fuel pump failed, you could no longer hear it while priming. At this point it had 130 hours on it and was about 3 years old. I have no great loyalty to Cummins as the OEN engine and fuel pump both failed inside 130 hours so I bought an aftermarket tune up kit off Amazon and replaced pump, filter, and air filter. This worked about 10 hours and quits. I have since ordered 2 more fuel pumps that cost a bit more and   mostly good write ups. We'll see if I get a good one. I will post again in the future. I looked for an alternative and the other seems to be RVMP. It seems to get a lot of bad write ups. It's a shame that for $4000 no one makes a good RV generator.

Kind of an old thread but semi relevant.
Odd that the engine blew at 100hrs. (Assume it had an irreparable failure if it was replaced wholesale under warranty.)
Not sure why you’d consider replacing the whole generator for a fuel supply issue.
Maybe this is a fuel supply issue to the pump? Kinked line somewhere or something restricting free flow to the pump and burning it up?

  • I used an auto parts store low pressure pump and I keep a spare with me just in case.

Currently about 500 hours on that cheap replacement.

Just match the psi rating, head rating and flow rate rating from your exiting pump. When mine failed on a trip I replaced mine on the road from an auto parts store for about $25.
  • Appears Cummins themselves wants $333 for that one!
Personally I’d drop in something meant for carburetors that costs about $50 and take my chances with it before paying that much for a cheap little fuel pump.
Fwiw, there is no reason for that part to be that expensive. You could buy 3 Holley 100+ Gph fuel pumps and a regulator for that much.
