I just picked up my 38' DP in Mesa, AZ. Had no issue with navigating the streets of Mesa or Phoenix rush hour, or the 1,100 mile drive home. My problem was fueling in the Diesel Truck Lanes at major truck stops. With pre-pay requirements, attendants activating the wrong pump, registers not working, and so on, refueling took forever. Has anyone solved the logistics of this process that allows swiping at the pump or quicker in and out. I don't mind waiting on a trucker to fill-up, my problems seem to begin when I am filling up. I am missing something and could use some advice to speed up this process. Thanks.

I have always used a Pilot/Flying J card..Allows you to fill up at the pump, no going inside and no limit....I believe it is through Good Sam.....6 cents off the cash price.....Pay the balance at the end of the month.....Never had an issue with the card and fueling is never an issue....In and out in a few minutes.....In over 32K miles over the past 2 1/2 yrs almost most always use Pilot and for me it works......Some do not like the truck stops but they are easy to navigate and typically have plenty of room....

Sounds like some gas stations need to ditch 1985 and learn that there are pumps with credit/debit cards now. I know it's a bit different with cash because of price difference, but still.. should not be a big process. Just be sure you get a receipt at the register.

We try not to use truck stops for fuel, it is usually higher in price and like you I don't like to have to go in to turn pump on and then back in to pay! Going in other stations can be tricky but the diesel pumps are usually on the end which makes it a little easier.

I fuel up with the big trucks. Never had as many problems as you. Just follow the same procedure as the truckers.

I always pay cash and have gotten good at guesstimating how much it is going to take eg gauge shows half I'll put $100 in.Note pump number, wifey runs money in while I do windshield, I pump and leave.

I dislike the truck stops because they're too busy, cumbersome to use and too expensive even with six cents or whatever off. I can always find a better price on diesel.

Much prefer going to Sam's Club or a Kroger's / Fred Meyers store. Sam's has huge parking lots, plenty of room to get our 40' DP with toad in and out, then park and go grocery shopping at Sam's or WalMart. We do enough shopping at a Kroger's store that we always get 20 - 30 cents off per gallon. Same thing, shop an then fill up.

Very interesting... can you provide more info on this card? I went to the Love's web site and all I could find was "My Rewards Card" and it didn't sound anything like the one you described above.

34 DP with motorcycle on the back, 36+ overall length

i normally avoid the big truck stops

and hit one of the local Gas stations close by, on the same or nearby exit ramp
and get my Diesel fuel there

You may be able to lessen these problems (which I've never had) by fueling very early or very late in the day when they're not so busy. 11am-1pm is the worst time.

I have a card that has a $2000 a month limit and swipe at the pump at flying J, Discount price and easy in and out at the truck pumps.

Never had your problems. I just go inside with the CC, fill, pull forward and get the receipt.

At FJ I use the GS Swipe & Save which sets the price to cash minus 3 cents/gal and starts the pump. Fill, pull forward and go inside and pay with a 5% cash back CC. ie At $2.03/gal I pay $1.90.
