Fueling the Kodiak

We've had ours for over 8 years and have fulltimed for the last 4. A few years ago while fueling it was leaning to the right and it took more fuel than I thought it would. So I started dropping the left rear jack to make sure it leans to the right. The other day I ran the tank down to where the needle just touched the red. The 80 gallon tank took 91 gallons. Didn't spill a drop either. Any one else do this?

Jeff :)
  • When I put the 91 gallons in the other day my Scangauge said it would take 89.7. Just over 600 miles on a tank of gas not diesel. Using the AC and towing the Wrangler too. Takes it a long time to come off the full. It has to be leaning to the passenger side and fill it slowly.

  • Great, thanks. I am still not going to try and use the extra fuel which may or may not be usable. The range to an indicated empty is pretty good but an extra 40 gallons or so would be even better.

It sounds like a strange question because you read the specifications and see 80 and figure it is probably around that. The lowest I ever saw the gauge had the needle well below the E and I was seriously stressed driving into a big head wind. It was the happiest 75 gallons I ever pumped in my life. So, how much does the Kodiak really hold and how much of what it holds is really usable? And is the gas different from the diesel version? I guess I will have to look for the tag. Thanks.

The 109 gallon tank allows for expansion as fuel temperature changes. 80 is the average capacity of usable fuel. Fuel leaves tank through a drop pipe from top of tank that does not touch bottom of tank.
The diesel engine uses same tank and fuel sender. But do not have a fuel pump. Fuel is sucked from engines CP3 pump.

  • My MH has a tag on tank that says 109 Gallons. I hope I never have find out if will actually take that amount if it was completely empty. Most I have ever put in is 73 gallons.
