Full hookups with a macerator

We recently purchased a 2016 Jayco Precept MH. We are on our first outing trying to figure everything out. One item that has a confused is what do we do with full hookups. It's not like we haven't done this before, we have owned travel trailers and class Cs.

When we did our walk through, the technician showed us our "dumping" system. We have one general dump hose that we can hook up to the out line and dump. He showed us another smaller dump hose that is attached to a macerator on one end and the other end has the seal for the "hole in the ground." He told us when we use the macerator we should have a hose connected to the flush system. We currently have our white hose connected from the water spigot to our MH.

Now we don't know if we have to unhook the white hose and connect the black hose to the flush to dump at our site. We really don't want to be hooking and unhooking hoses in order to dump our tanks.

The separate hose they gave us can be used, but that doesn't have the "seal" on it.

Help.

Shirley

  • Sounds like you have a PORTABLE macerator system. If that's the case then it's up to you to decide which one you want to use. Ours is built in so we use it all the time. I wouldn't have another rig without one. That said, grey water has a bypass, so it's open while connected to sewer/full hookups. The day I plan to empty the black tank, I close the grey valve, take our showers, then empty the black tank. I then flush the black tank with the shower water. After the third flush, I close the black valve, leave the grey valve open and complete the draining of the grey tank. When it's empty, I close everything up, finish my sandwich and go back inside the coach.....Dennis
  • You will find the macerator a much cleaner way to dump than the big hose. I would use it all the time (in fact I do...)

And no, you do not need to use the tank flush when you use the macerator, just hook it up and hit the switch.

Also, most of them have a gray water bypass, you can leave your gray dump valve open all the time, and some of the gray water will eventually go out the bypass.

I generally pump black to empty, then turn off the pump and open both valve and equalize the tanks. This does a good job of flushing out the black tank. then close gray and pump black again, then close black open gray and pump it dry.
  • Hi,

It might have helped to ask a couple more questions from the guy giving the pre-delivery inspection. Probably what he meant was that you can use the 4" hose at most full hookup sites. Someday when you want to use the mascerator pump, then you would connect to that line, then run the 1" discharge hose uphill (if required to about 10' above the RV parking location) and dump to that site. This might be helpful at home, if you have a typical sewer cleanout say below your kitchen sink on the outside, and can park within about 30' of that clean-out. You can then pump out at home with the mascerator pump. While using the mascerator pump, it needs to be watered down a bit. So start by pumping out a little of the grey water to make sure that the pump is not going faster than the sewer line can take the 'water'. At this point, if any spills, it will be relatively clean grey water, it might kill a little grass for a few days, but not give a infection to anyone who might come in contact with the dirty water.

So the grey water pump out went well, and now the grey tank is down to about 1/2 full (do not empty at this point - tell you soon). Shut off the pump (to not run dry) and then open the black tank valve. Add water to the black tank, and run the pump some more. This will thin out the black stuff, and wash it all down the 1" diameter hose to the selected septic dump area. Do not add to much water to the black tank, say 1 GPM, while the pump is rated at around 4 - 5 GPM. After a few minutes, you would shut off the fresh water into the black tank, and then completely empty it to suck in some air to the mascerator pump. Then close the black valve and add a little more water - say 1 GPM for 2 minutes. This prevents the remaining black tank 'goo' from turning into a cracker like substance at the bottom of the tank that becomes difficult to remove.

Pump out the grey tank, you will not need to rinse the grey tank. This will clean out the hose. If your grey tank was empty, then run a garden hose into the tub or shower or sink, to fill the tank about 10 - 15 gallons of water. Then use that water to flush our the 1" hose that leaves the maserator pump.

If you still have questions, stop by the dealership, or call them, they can walk you through everything over the phone, I am sure, because you have already owned a RV before, and this is not 'new' to you, just having the pump is new thing to get used to.

    Good luck!

    Fred.
  • What you need is a garden hose 'Y' to go on CG water spigot. Then you can hook up your 'water pressure regulator' and 'portable water supply hose' on one side of 'Y' and a 'general purpose hose' on other side of 'Y'

Portable water hose..........ONLY connects to RV city water connection. That is it ONLY use

General use hose.......flushing/rinsing macerator, sewer 3" slinky hose, spraying errant kids down with etc.

Good Brass 'Y' not one of those cheap green/yellow plastic junk

AND if your 3" sewer slinky hose doesn't have a fitting on end that goes into CG sewer pipe get one of these.
It has different size threads and screws into most CG sewer pipes

Until then....use sewer hose. Stick end in CG sewer pipe and stuff rags around it. Hold it down into pipe with foot while dumping.

OR fill fresh water tank.use on-board pump. Disconnect white hose from rig and spigot----connect black hose to spigot and to flush system. Turn on macerator and dump. Then turn on flushing system and flush black tank and macerator. When done with black tank. Turn off flushing hose, close black tank drain valve then open and dump grey tank.
