The awning almost fell off the side of the Rv
It appears that originally the cover for the awning and the trim that holds the rubber cover in place were riveted in place.
Electrolysis may have been going on between unlike metals and the rivets have disintegrated.
I punched out the remains of the rivets, cleaned all the caulking and installed stainless steel "sheet metal" bolts 3/8 by 1 1/2 inches. They did not come through the inside and are definitly anchored, in fact I think you would rip the whole side off now instead of the awning coming off.
I will do the rest of the rivets the same way in the off season
