The cj with the dana 20 transfer case can safely be towed 4 down but that looks to be around an 82 or 83 and they have the dana 300. I modified my 300 by welding teeth on the shifting collar that is always turning while the drive shaft is rotating. What happens to a stock 300 is the gear oil doesn't circulate and the rear bearing burns up and seizes.
