Garmin RV 760 vs Rand McNally 7720

Looking to get an RV specific GPS. I have read reviews on Amazon.com and both units seem to have some issues.

I searched the topic on rv.net , but couldn't find anything specific to address my concerns.

Please give me your opinion............. good or bad.

Thanks.

  • I had a RM 7710 and did like using it until it started freezing and then died completely after 3 years. I bought the Garmin 760 and like it better. The RM "talks" more than the Garmin. The lane assist in the Garmin is better. I think the Garmin is more user friendly. Both have, at one time or another, sent me in directions I didn't like. I think the Garmin has better maps. Just my opinion
  • I have the (Good Sam branded) Rand McNally RVND 7725 * which I purchased via Camping World. So far, it's the best GPS unit that I've owned. My previous was an older Garmin nuvi670 which is also a good unit, but the Rand McNally RVND 7725 has far superior features as it biased more towards RV travel (but can be adjusted and used in a regular vehicle as well). I really like the 7" touch screen.

    * I believe that the 7725 is the same as the 7720 only Good Sam branded.

Garmin!!!. I have an RVND and it's awful. Without going into details, it freezes quite a bit despite the "fix" offered by RM. I have had it replaced and the new one still freezes, always on the beltway. And it's not intuitive at all. I have a Garmin we just got and love it. They simply make the best GPS. Dependable, intuitive, easy to operate, easy to read etc.
  • I have the RVND 7720. I wish the lane assist and exit graphics were more realistic like my Tom Tom, otherwise I really like it. It does a lot more than I need.
  • I have 4 Garmin GPS for my personal vehicles and think they are great but hands down my 7710 (earlier version of 7720) is the best I've ever used for long distance travel
  • I have the rvnd 7710 and have no no problems of any kind. Don't know about the 7720.
  • I recently got the Garmin and have been happy with it in general. I like the large screen and the split screen view when approaching an intersection. I have been disappointed in the city maps. I thought the main idea was to be able to determine places where it was not safe to take an RV when leaving the highway. In almost all cases when I leave the highway to go on city streets it tells me it doesn't know about RV travel in the area. My home is on a fairly main street and only one turn between home and I-40 and it's not sure if I can get home pulling the trailer when I get off I-40. I never trust the GPS by itself but use maps too. I don't know if the Rand is any better.
