Gas can

Does anyone carry a spare gas can when on long trips? Carry it where? Full or empty. Still debating on taking the EU2000 on road trip, even if the built in works fine. Things to consider, DW ran the rig out of gas while I wasn't paying attention. Road side assistance will bring you gas, assuming you are in cell phone range.
Seems a lot of "emergency" items could be skipped if you could depend on roadside assistance. I've got both Geico auto insurance roadside assistance as well as AAA RV, so I should be covered as long as I can get a hold of them. Preppping for a extended cross country road trip has got me a bit nervous. What did I forget this time.
  • On RV's and boats, I have always considered them at 1/4 full as being empty. In other words, I never let it get below a quarter full. Having been all over the western US and Alaska, It is hard for me to imagine, running out of gas, if that rule is followed. I see zero need for a gas can
  • What good would an empty gas can be when you run out of gas 50 miles from anything?
  • We carry a gallon in the compartment between the generator and dump tanks. We also have roadside, but it's faster to fill a can you're carrying. Our gas gauge is broken, I discovered, shortly after buying. Now I fill up when my odometer tells me we've gone 300 /350 miles.
  • Always better to be safe than sorry. We always have a can of gas when we travel.
  • Years ago I carried a one gallon can in a battery box on the tongue. It was about one inch too tall and held in with a bungee cord. The gas can fit in the box like it was made for it.
  • My way of looking at that......be as self sufficient as possible. Don't count on others taking care of your problems. That's just me.

The fuel system in all modern motorhomes such as yours and mine have a good fuel capacity capable of traversing by normal routes any of the spacious areas of our continent without need of auxiliary fuel. It does require that one plans ahead and uses due diligence with maintaining the fuel gauge to show you accurate info.
