Gas mileage E450

Could some of you give me an estimate on the gas mileage I would expect on a E450 Class C 32 foot long?

I realize driving conditions, weight, personal driving habits all are factors however, I would like to get other's opinions. The current owner says he gets 9-10 mpg - no toad.

  • I have a '98 32' Coachmen based on the E-SuperDuty (which is what they called the E-450 chassis for a couple of years) with the V10. I seem to consistently get between 7.5 and 8 mpg (US gallon) at highway speeds (typically around 60-65 mph). Newer versions of the chassis should be a bit more efficient inherently, but not miraculously so.

Since a large part of the drag is aerodynamic, the frontal area and especially the speed of travel will have a significant affect on the mileage (as will the shape of the back of the motorhome, but there's not a lot of variation there). Length in itself is relatively a minor consideration, though of course longer units are usually also heavier, and weight has some bearing on milage--particularly in stop-and-go driving or hilly/mountainous terrain.
  • I have '11 V10 E450 24' 11,300 lbs lower profile C. I cruise at 62-65 MPH. I reset the MPG indicator infrequently and right now it reads 9.3 MPG.

The fuel mileage is dependent on driving conditions. If it was all stop and start city driving it probably would be about 7 MPG. Headwind really knocks it down.
  • 7-8 mpg. That is with a Winnebago 29B. I do pull a 4 door S-10 blazer 4 down.

That's running with the cruise control set between 65 and 70. As long as I am north of the 7 mpg, i am happy.

He must drive VERY slow. I have very similar to yours but at 28 ft.
I get approx. 8 MPG while actually on the road going around 60-65 mph. Adding my small trailer makes virtually no difference.
  • We get around 7.9-8 mpg on our 32' E450. Didn't change when we had towed before.
  • Depends a lot on the transmission. Our newest motorhome has the new 6 speed transmission. Driving at around 60mph, we averaged 11.2 MPG from West Virginia to Florida and back. The new tranny is much quieter, and we were able to use the cruise control for most of the trip.
  • 09 Cambria 31'. over the last 14,759 miles I averaged 8.23 MPG. Sometimes I pull a 20ft. trailer weighing just under 5ooo lbs. sometimes four down on my jeep. I have recorded as high as 11.12 and as low as 5.08 which was in the wind pulling the enclosed trailer.
I made a trip to Las Vegas, one way around 275 miles and recorded the mileage, always do, next trip I pulled the jeep and the mileage difference was minimal. 62MPH is the sweet spot on my rig.
  • Hi,

I drive 49 mph (78 kph). That gets me to 10 mpg US (12.5 Imperial) if there is no head wind. If I drive 50 mph (80 kph) that drops to 9 mpg US.

I do have oversize tires and air tabs.
  • 9-10 miles per Imperial Gallon would be ball park, from my experience oven 40,000 miles with a 28 foot 2004 E450 pulling a toad.
  • I consistent get 7.7 mpg on a E450 Fleetwood Jamboree 31M pulling a 2015 Ford Focus.
