Everyone talks about how much better diesels are at going up and down mountains. However the real question is what percentage of your time are you actively going up and down steep grades,for most people I suspect it represents less than 1% the time, even those that live in mountain states it likely amounts to less than 10%. We took our gas powered coach to Yellowstone last summer, crossed the continental divide 3 or 4 times a day some days, and never felt like we NEEDED a diesel, a diesel might have been nicer, but not required. Of course ours is a smaller sub 30 ft class A, but this also allowed us to fit into the campgrounds in yellowstone, which have few spaces for coaches over 30 ft in length.
