Using the 1% towing up hills is not an totally accurate way to compare the Gas vs Diesel engine needs. Any time you are going up hills OR driving on flat roads the weight of the RV is going to extra stress on the engine. IMHO and experience, the diesel is a better engine for towing RV's.
