Gen Sets that auto start and stop

I watched a video on a new RV the other day and they were saying that the gen turned on and shut off automatically. It did this when the batteries got low or the AC needed to turn on due to thermostat settings. That is sooooooooo cool.

Is it possible to add that to an older rig like mine?

    Magilla,

I added a Magnum ME-AGS-S automatic generator start to our RV. It easily connected to my existing Onan. I usually keep it in standby but use it to ensure that the dogs don't get hot if shore power goes out while we are not there.

If you don't mind the asking...
How expensive (just approximately) of a venture was that?
    Was it a difficult installation?

  • It is really neat when it decides to crank up the generator at 2AM.
  • yes it can be done, the auto start control is usually several hundred dollars plus the install fee
most common install senses battery voltage, and starts genset to charge batteries

temperature sensing might be an add on option,

was the RV all electric, with the a/c powered from the inverter ?
    or was it temperature sensing
  • Yes, If the generator is electric start it is possible. Just a bit on the expensive side.
