Generator ? Generec Q-55G

I have a 33' Rexair.

The Generator is a Generec Q-55G with 1500 hours.

The motor runs strong but the Generator seems loud. Almost like metal is hitting a pulley or something.

It does not change much if you have the charging set on Off, 20 or 50 Amps.

Do any of you Folks have any similar experiences with a Generator that might give me a direction to start trouble shooting this issue?

Thanks for any impute.
  • Maybe I will barrow a trans jack from my pal and pull it out. If I get it out of the cubby hole it is stuck into I bet I could get a look at it.

    Thank You Dennis.
  • Time to get a stethoscope from Harbor Freight and do some sleuthing... Might just be the shroud came loose somewhere and is now rubbing. Sound, like water, can travel well beyond where it's actually coming from. Usually, if it's a bearing you'll get an overheating problem with it as friction produces heat....get the stethoscope and hopefully track down the problem. You might look for new worn spots around the unit in the meantime and get lucky....Dennis
  • Hi Dennis and thanks for responding.

We bought this Coach about two years ago. We use it to travel to Motocross Races.

I do not remember it being this loud in the past but we can go Months between using it. I do run both the Motor Home and Generator every 3 or 4 weeks driving it a couple of miles each time. As I posted the Generec motor sounds fine and runs strong. It sounds like something rubbing? It is not a knocking sound but a consistent sound almost as if something was rubbing a shroud? Maybe a bearing?
