Generator turned itself on!

I am stumped as to why my Onan 7500 diesel generator in my Damon Tuscany motor coach came on during a recent storm. The coach was plugged into a 50 amp AC power box equipped with a surge protector. I was told by friends that the power went out a couple of times during the storm. The generator ran by itself for about 10 hours before it was turned off. Never had this happen before and wonder if anyone knows why this could have happened. Thank you for your help!

    Yes, it's a known problem certain years of Onans. There is a connector near the firewall that you unplug and put in dielectric grease in the keep it dry. That's why it happened in a storm. It's the wire from the dash switch.
