Generator

2007 HR Ambassador. Both generator remote start switches in the coach will not start or stop the generator. The switch on the generator works fine. I'm thinking that it may be a faulty relay. Can anybody shed some light on this problem? Thank you in advance.

ABOVE REFERENCE GENERATOR IS AN ONAN 8000.

  • I pulled dash switch out found one spade connection came off plugged it on and it worked simple is best.
  • On the passenger side of the genset is a multiwire loom. Unplug that loom, you should see 6-8 wires. Ensure those wires are properly connected with no corrosion.....Dennis
  • Make sure the multi-wire connector for the remote is clean and in good shape with no corrosion. Unplug it and plug it together a couple of times. If you've got some dielectric grease, use that.

    Suspect list:
On or inside the generator is a plug and socket where the "Reote" switches connect.. Suspect #1

Mice v/s Wires between said plug/socket and the first of the two remote switches..

And someone already suggested a fuse.. I do not know if there is a separate fuse for the Remote switches or not

    I seriously doubt it's a relay.
  • Had same issue on my 06 Ambassador. When trouble shooting I found out the switches provide a ground for the start relay on the generator. Problem turned out to be a corrode pin (actually where the wire was soldered to the pin) on the cable connector from the generator to the motor home right above the front axle. I cut and spliced around it. If I ever have to remove the gen I'll just cut the splice.
    Hope this helps; Blessings Keith

When the same thing that happened to mine last year it was a wire splice from the remote switches that was corroded and would no longer pass current. Re-spliced with heat shrinkable ends and all was well again. I found it after spending hrs looking at other things.
  • Make and model of genset?
Blown control fuse on genset depending on make and model
