Georgie Boy Diesels

I don't see many of their diesel coaches around or even online during my searches. Can someone give me some input on the Georgie Boy line of diesels, the good, bad or ugly.

Were these coaches built by Coachmen or bought out?

Do you have a preference on the Cummins vs the Cat engine? I know they both have been around for awhile but was looking for any inside info. Also can I expect at least 10 mpg on a coach of this size? I've read all kinds of different numbers but mostly inflated I'm sure.

That estimate on mileages is probably very close.
The CAT engine was only available in the CruiseMaster, it was on the bigger wheelbase XC chassis and had the Allison 6spd transmission. (I believe the 3000 series.) My Landau on the XCS chassis has the Cummins 260HP, Allison 1000- 5 speed and is about 5000 lbs lighter than the Cruisemaster. I consistently get just over 11 mpg at 62-65.
  • 10 MPG perhaps with the small Cummins B driven VERY carefully/slowly.

9 with Cat (which has a lot more torque (860 lb-ft) driven the same way.

Plan on 8-9 and you will be in the range for these reasonably light coaches.

BTW, either engine will more than outlast the rest of the coach unless badly neglected.

  • Good luck.. The Cruise Master is the higher end model. I've had 2 Georgie Boy motorhomes, all told over 23 years, and think they are well built and hold up well.
Buying used can be an adventure, but there are some good ones out there.
    Keep us informed..
  • Thanks, the one in particular I may go look at is a 99 or 00 with the 300 hp Cat.
  • GeorgieBoy had a few diesel models. Initially the CruiseMaster which was on the Freightliner XC chassis (Air Suspension). It had Cummins ISB 275HP and Cat 300HP diesel. And was available 1997? to 2005 or 6. In 2000 and possibly 1999 they introduced the Landau, as a Diesel on the smaller XCS chassis (Spring suspension). It used the ISB 260 and 275HP Cummins engines.
Both the CruiseMaster and Landau were also available as gas powered on Ford and Chevy chassis.
The Landau diesel was only available for a few years as the two diesel models competed with each other, Landau was available then only as gas powered. (After Coachmen took over GBM, I called Coachmen for info on my motorhome and was informed the Landau was never available as a diesel???) There are several Landau diesel owners here on the RV boards..

Brochures and Specs for GBM Diesel.
  • 1995 Georgie Boy was sold to Coachmen. 2008 Coachmen became part of Forest River
    Last model year was 2009

Lots of folks happy with their pre-coachmen Georgie Boys
Not so much after 2004 model.
