Problem is, there are no other makers making these types of gensets. Kohler's smallest is 5000 watts, and costs five digits.
Of course, the ideal generator would be an inverter model with variable RPM... but with a decent battery that can handle the inrush current of a microwave or A/C compressor until the generator can get up to speed.
Another option is what a Japanese company makes -- an eight pole generator. The engine can run at 900 RPM (or 750 RPM for Europeans and their 240VAC/50Hz systems.) Even a four pole genset running at 1800 RPM would be far quieter and last longer than the typical two pole models that we have now.
