Like many, we started with a tent, 1976 we got a solid side Apache folding trailer and kept it until 1991. After a 30 day trip, setting up and taking down almost everyday after traveling, got old. 10 gal. Of fresh water, a 10 gal holding tank that was external, you have to carry to dump. We then went to a 19' Hi-Lo trailer, which we found to be easier to use, but not ideal. We went to a 24' Terry, 40 gallon fresh water and real holding tanks. Great trailer, but no slide. Then, a 27' Cougar with a super slide. We though this was great, but we had to carry extra water, a generator, and fuel. There was very little storage in the trailer, so a lot went into the pickup bed. We started looking at motorhomes as an alternative. Had to have enough fresh water and holding tanks, on-board generator and auto-leveling system. Oh, and adequate storage outside, and dual pane windows. This left out all of the 5ers and Class C's we looked at. We had collected a large amount of material for researcher, got frustrated and through everything away. Heated holding tanks seemed to be a plus, and motorhomes had this feature. We started looking at MHs again after 2 months. We know what we needed, and where we would be going to camp, mostly boon-docking in isolated, hard to reach areas, so short wheel base would be a plus. We settled on a 33R FLAIR, with a 208” WB, and haven't looked back since. We just returned from 6 day camp below Chinook Pass and all we had to do was load the bar-by Q and chairs, pull in the slides, retract the levelers, load the little gen and we were on the way. All totaled about 20 minutes of non back- braking work. Would we go back, not a chance, there is too much to give up. If it gets too much work, we would not be going camping anyway.
