- Explain working Backwards. ALL RV awnings (even a more than 35 year old Faulkner) the Arms are wound by turning the arm or spring Counterclockwise on the RH. and CLOCKWISE on the Left hand. Does the awning roll up to store but fabric is backwards???? Doug
Look at this video. Granted it is an Electric awning but I want to know if you have the same problem with the fabric reversed or backwards.
https://support.lci1.com/correcting-awning-fabric-which-rolled-up-backwards - Seann12ExplorerThe awning material is wound correctly...over the top of roller, the "backwards" is that the tension is reversed. You have to force the tube to roll up, and it is spring loaded while coming down, exactly opposite to what it should be. I have even tried tensioning the springs backwards, but it's the same result.
- How old are the torsion springs? Is it possible you removed both Torsion and installed the front on the back and the back on the front? Doug
- Seann12ExplorerThe front spring/cap has the lock (back in it's original place), all marks made before removal are lined up. It's like we're pulling from the wrong side of the tube. It's a mystery.
- Darryl_RitaExplorerYou wound the springs backwards.
- Seann12ExplorerI tried them the opposite way, same result.
- What year RV? And Brand. Is it possible the cam lock is messed up? I have over 42 years and thousands of Awning installs and repairs and have NEVER run into what you have. Are you adding tension with awning extended or retracted? There are different turns for each. Doug
7 turns CLOSED
15 extended.
https://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/documents/Patio-Awning-Service-Manual.pdf - It may be as simple as the Torsion springs are NOT GOOD.. They are binding internally in the awning tube. It has been over 35 years since I last worked on a Faulkner awning do not remember what the spring end of the torsions look like. Doug
- Carole_BurgessExplorerThe awning worked fine, nice and smooth up and down prior to fabric removal. The rig is a '94 Itasca Sunrise, 29'. I'm winding extended with 14 turns. I am wondering if something has gone off in the gear/lock mechanism...

I think you may be correct. Doug
