Awning working backwards after fabric replacement

Hi, Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot...just replaced fabric on 17' Faulkner awning, put 14 turns counterclockwise on front spring, same clockwise on rear and the tension is exactly backwards...

The awning worked fine, nice and smooth up and down prior to fabric removal. The rig is a '94 Itasca Sunrise, 29'. I'm winding extended with 14 turns. I am wondering if something has gone off in the gear/lock mechanism...
