If it "sparked and would not take it" with nothing on you have something on (like the converter charging the battery) you don't know about.
I would flip the breaker in the house for the non-GFI outlet, plug in the RV, then flip on the breaker.
If the breaker trips you have a short or a heavy amp draw somewhere like maybe the water heater or converter.
