Good Sam Trip Router

In the past two months I have used the Good Sam Trip Router and it was sending me down parkways which were car only with overpasses less than 11 feet. I emailed them and the response was they would add the parkways I mentioned to the list of non RV friendly roads.

But how many other areas which are RV unfriendly are they sending me down?? The service is not RV friendly.

Can anyone recommend a good RV routing service?
  • I have bought three of their planner/navigators in the past ten years. None has stacked up to Delorme as a trip planner and I can download POI's from many sources that are more complete. All they are good for to me, is as a digital campground locator that follows the paper directory GS puts out. I might buy one again, if they ever offer a trade-in policy on the poor ones they have sold in the past. But then again, probably not even then, I've already bit 3 times.
  • I used to use AAA , then checked it against a map.(Did Alaska that way) Now I usually just use a map and the GPS. Did a 8500 mile US trip that way last year.
  • It sounds like you are using the new GS program. It is horrible. I use the old version, which is an option on the log in page. It does not have the list of campgrounds that the new version has, but it gives you a bunch of options to list your route preferences and it seems to avoid the RV unfriendly routes.
I simply do not understand why GS would offer routes that were not RV friendly.
  • Install Microsoft Streets & Trips on your own PC and never have to pay for routing service nor depend on them!
  • I use City Navigator truck routing from Garmin... It routes me on truck routes only...
  • Hi All.

There are a lot of RV'ers who have bought some of the most expensive GPS Systems out there, and some made just for RV's.

We are still using an appromantely a 25 year old "TOM"TOM"ONE most of all of the so called newer Brands of GPS Systems put out sice then. And it is still working better than most of all of the Newer High Tech ones claim to be.

We have used a " A Family Motor Coach Association", "North American Road Atlas", and Travel Guide from a few years in-between copies. And have never ran into any problems myself.

We use our old 25+ year 31/2 inch, an old TOM-TOM-TOM-ONE, which still by the ways have never got us lost or down any wrong turns. We also, some times ago bought a 5 inch TOM-TOM-TOM- and an older "TOM"TOM"ONE", by the time we got it. We also use the "Next Exit".

We have only been RV'ers for a little over 46 years now, and not once have ever got lost or taken down the wrong road. Have never had a "Blow Out" or a "Flat Tire" either, or have ever "Broken Down". I do all of my own repairs on everything thing that we own.

We also have never met a bridge we couldn't fit under, Luck, NO WAY. We believe in good proper "Proventive Maintence Programs.

One in a while it nice to check our Map Quest or Google Earth. Our Motorhome will more than out last us and then some, unless something happens to it. Sorry, but a so called RV Tech will have a very long wait on waiting to fix any RV we own. Plus we are also big time BoonDockers. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill & "Two Small Yorkie Pups" who love to travel as much time as we do
