Its quite a haul from the Grizzly down to the tetons. If you were doing it for a one day trip...Id say OK...but for repeats...BOOO!!!
Stay at the Virginian when you are in Jackson...and at the Grizzly when up north. Its TIGHT parking at the Virginian...but you can do it

X-2 on the Virginian this is where I stayed last time I was in that area! Beautiful time of year to visit with the trees changing color and the animals heading for the lowlands! My Sister in Law used to live in Jackson Hole and we stayed at the Virginian when we visited her.

Hi Mr. Mark are you sure you don't mean 70 miles? We did exactly what you are suggesting it's been a few years back but I don't remember the two being quite that close.

You know, I didn't actually know the actual mileage so I put the two parks into Google maps and they are just shy of 7 miles apart from what it says.

I do remember we drove to both places in the toad while we were parked at the Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park. When we decided to tour Jackson (aka Jackson Hole), we left the coach at Grizzly and rented a hotel room right in downtown Jackson.

I punched in 'Yellowstone National Park' and 'Grand Teton National Park' to get the mileage (6.9 miles).

Hi Mr. Mark are you sure you don't mean 70 miles? We did exactly what you are suggesting it's been a few years back but I don't remember the two being quite that close.

Technically, 7 miles is pretty accurate. The northern boundary of GTNP and the southern boundary of YNP are separated by several miles of national forest land and the roadway there is called the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway. The road between the 2 parks reopened yesterday; I would doubt it will close again, unless a new fire breaks out.

IMO, Colter Bay is BY FAR the best full-hookups CG for the Tetons. There may be some people who have cancelled plans to travel there because of the fires, even well into September, so the OP may have a chance - but act now! Grizzly is very nice, but it's a long day trip from there to Jackson and back. If you really want to spend some time & enjoy the Tetons, stay in GTNP if at all possible.

X2 There is not much to choose from in this area, but Coulter Bay is by far the best around. 800-628-9988. This park stays full so you may not be able to get in on this short of a notice but it's worth a try.

Getting a site is going to be even more difficult since Headwaters at Flagg Ranch is not expected to reopen this year. They are managed by the same concessionaire that runs Colter Bay, so they have shifted the Flagg Ranch reservations to Colter Bay. Might want to consider the Virginian in Jackson. A good drive to Grand Teton, but you would be in the heart of Jackson, which is a great town.

Grand Teton R V is one of the most over priced parks around. Granted they have a short season to put it to you.

The road between the Tetons and Yellowstone's south entrance opened yesterday. The road from W Ystone to Madison is one lane for half a mile starting yesterday because of a fire burning along the road. I'll be able to report on the smoke in the Tetons tomorrow. Smoke in W Ysone is pretty bad in the mornings all the way to Madison... better in the afternoons.
