All drains leading to the grey tank have P traps that help stop the backflow of sewer gases into the coach. You can leave the grey tank open but I would also advise creating a P trap with the sewer hose to keep the sewer gases out of the grey tank all together. Any kind of breeze can add pressure to the grey tank and then force any gases in the tank to bubble through the P traps and into the coach.
