All drains leading to the grey tank have P traps that help stop the backflow of sewer gases into the coach. You can leave the grey tank open but I would also advise creating a P trap with the sewer hose to keep the sewer gases out of the grey tank all together. Any kind of breeze can add pressure to the grey tank and then force any gases in the tank to bubble through the P traps and into the coach.
Creating a 'trap' in sewer hose is a good idea......but has nothing to do with pressure in grey tank. Waste tanks are vented, otherwise you could not drain anything into them or drain anything out of them.
The 'trap' in the sewer hose helps keep sewer flies from setting up house in your grey waste tank if you leave grey dump valve open.
The pressure I was referring to only occurs with wind via the same vent pipe your referring too. Wind here is regularly 10-20 mph and when your in your trailer with the wind blowing you will hear the P traps in the sinks and showers gurgle occasionally as the pressure inside and outside the trailer changes.
Just like flushing your toilet when the wind blows and sometime the stink goes out the vent pipe and other times the wind goes in the vent and stink goes in the coach.
