The people that downplay the need for a gun and even go as far as belittling people for carrying them have obviously been very fortunate and sheltered so far. There is another name for them and that would be "potential victims". If I sound like I am fear mongering, I am not. The odds are against it but I guess ignorance is Bliss. I am not lucky enough to have been particularly sheltered having grown up dirt poor in a bad neighborhood.
There are people that are unstable and there are sociopaths and there are those that are completely rational and stable but want to take what you have from you. To the smart guy that made the sarcastic tripe about Penis-extensions and being weak, Let me know how your sarcastic bravado goes when you are faced with an overwhelming force intent on doing you harm.
Anyway, I have not been in a bad situation like that camping with my family yet but I can think of some places you do not want to be out boon docking it around Ocala. It is entirely possible to happen to anyone when boon docking just about anywhere.
We will not own guns while our kids live with us. No matter how thorough I think I am or how responsible I believe my kids to be, it's just not worth it to me yet. Our solution is dogs. 3 very BIG dogs. Our Great Pyrenees alone is enough of a deterrent. I sleep easy at night.
