I have never felt threatened while camping and I follow the work in my RV. Even stayed in it in the Chicago area for a very long spell. (A few years)
Served in the military for more than 20 yrs.
I grew up with firearms along with hunting. Safety was always paramount in our home and in camp. Always had firearms around. First instance of defense with firearms came at the age of 5. Could hardly keep both ends of that 30-06 off the ground at the same time. But it is funny how when that guy started climbing that 8 ft chain link fence to hurt my father I had no problems with handling it. He stopped at the top of the fence, looked at me, and stated it was not loaded. I of course racked the bolt, let the live round hit the ground and let the bolt ride home with the next one from the magazine.
Now I will never know if he had continued over the fence if I would have shot him. I probably would have since I was naive about the difference between taking game and killing humans.
We never allowed liquor or drinking and firearms. I still do not to this day. I will leave if both are present at the same time.
If someone does not want to own or use one then I say more power to you. Do not try and impose your ideology on me and mine and I promise not to impose mine on you.
I believe in freedom. Mine, as well as yours, I have defended that freedom and would again. But what most of our coddled society has forgotten in it's self absorption is this- Ones freedom extends only to the point that it interferes with anothers.
My wife of 30+ years is from a 3rd world dictatorship. Ask her sometime if she is willing to return to a country where only the government and outlaws have firearms.
Again, you have the freedom to your ideas and opinions. I also have mine. You are free to leave and move to any place that has the type of government you crave.
For those who believe the LEO community is there to protect you then you had better ask one what specific duties they are charged with doing. Taking reports of crimes, catching criminals, enforcing codes and laws. They are not there to intercede between you and potential bad guys. Remember, the LEO cannot act until some law or code has been violated.
What is the response time for law enforcement in the boonies.
Each should prepare themselves the best they know how. Each must understand and accept responsibility for their actions or lack thereof.
