HDMI 4X4 & Dish IR remote

I just downgraded to a Dish 211z receiver in my MH from the original Hopper. The 211z has an IR remote and for some reason I just cannot get it to do anything through the HDMI 4X4 system that carries your IR back to the receiver cabinet. All of the other ones work (DVD, roku, etc.) and I even swapped out IR components on the HDMI 4X4 system to see if I had a bad part.

Any reason to believe the Dish IR is not compatible with the HDMI 4X4?

The IR eye is probably not aligned and when you close the door it bounces off the back of the door to the Receiver. Door open or closed will have not affect if installed correctly. Doug

Actually I never tried to close the door. Maybe I'll do that.

  • On the Tiffin IR repeater system if your Dish does not function, you contac Tiffin and they will send you the correct IR parts for the Dish system to work. They will NOT send it to a Dealer, only to the customer. It is a known problem that Dish receivers have a IR compatibility problem. Other IR systems may also have updated components for Dish systems. Just contac your OEM and see. Doug

Dish recievers seem to have a problem with repeaters not working .. evidently some do and many do nit . I have two that won't ( they work on all other devices ). Trade the 211 for a Wally , the same single tuner device only updated and I'm told has rf remotes.
Dish told me to get the 211z for the RV because right now the Wally requires all 3 sats to lock before it will work, and often we don't get the 129 low on the horizon here in the Rockies. If they ever fix that issue, I would like to get the Wally.

  • I did take the IR transmitter loose and try it in many locations but just nothing - on either TV.

It may be that mine is outdated Ed, good thought. Your suggestion to go to RF may be the key. Unfortunately I just gave a Dish UHF-IR converter to Goodwill a few months ago because I never thought I would need it again. :(

You should note where the IR receiver window is on your 211Z and make sure that the 4X4 IR emitters can send the IR signal into that window. I notice that all those other things you say are working OK are using a different piece of equipment..( DVD/ROKU systems ).

Tiffin Motor home users with have also faced this problem over the years.... even though Tiffin provided a different but similar system to carry the IR signals back to the receivers. I believe they now provide a superior upgraded system that works. Some people on that forum circumvented the problem by changing over to a RF remote instead of IR, and installed RF to IR receivers at the satellite receiver.
