Thank you all so very much. Doug asked most of the questions in the last posting, so here is further information (sorry I didn't give it before):
1. Outside temps are in the mid 50s where we are now (Northern California for our bi-annual medical treatments).
2. I don't remember exactly what he said he replaced, but he had to order three successive units, each of which he tested with his electrical equipment, before finding one with the correct "ohms"--I think.
3. 2005 Newmar Mountain Aire. It is a Penguin.
4. I can't fault Newmar, they've been wonderful on everything with this coach, including building the incredible machine. And the mobile guy is a Dometic certified repairman.
5. We have Aquahot, and while the unit was working in Yellowstone it WOULD switch to furnace at night, as it was supposed to.
Is this any help? Either way, thank you all again.
You have the older Penguin. The default is heat if the reversing system fails. Your HP unit is 8 or 9 years old. I have replaced dozens of reversing electric solenoids over the years and have NEVER had a new one defective from Dometic. Dometic sends 2 solenoids with each kit as Dometic used 2 types and there is no way to tell which model of valve so they send both, and you use the one that matches your existing solenoid valve. The ACTUAL reversing valve that freon flows thru is NOT a replaceable part and IF that part fails, then you have to replace the complete upper unit. From your description--heat then gradually blows cooler/cold, that valve is defective and you need a new Penguin. IF you replace the Penguin, you will have to purchase a 12 to 5 button CCC control kit as the NEW Penguins have the 12 button CCC control board mounted in them already and you have to purchase the 12 to 5 kit to let the new Penguin operate with the other 2 Penguins and your 5 button wall CCC tstat. The NEW Penguin 12 button control board will not work with your 5 button wall Tstat. Doug
