Help 2002 Georgetown starting probem----UPDATE

Broke down, motor home is a Ford V-10 69900 miles.

In St Petersburg COE Campground north of Augusta, Georgia.

Backed into site was leaving engine idling and it quit. Tried restarting but it only just loped for about 10 seconds then died again. It did the same thing a couple of more times.

I suspect it to be the in tank fuel pump.

Any one know of a repair facility near that can replace the pump?

Will need to be towed in also.

Thanks, Joe

After getting towed to the repair shop and having checked for the problem.
It was as I thought. The in tank fuel pump not having any pressure what so ever.
  • If you diagnosis is correct, that is a repair that could be done on site, and while more expensive than a repair done in a shop, it may still be cheaper than a wrecker bill.
  • You can also speed things along by getting an external pump at Napa. Used for decades by race cars they are as good as the internal. No need to remove the internal in most cases.

A local mobile RV tech should be able to install it. My diesel used an 8 GPM model. Required some brass plumbing to adapt the different port size to the hose size, and needed some new fuel hose, but Napa had all that. Worked fine for 12 years and never needed to drop the tank to get the old one out.
  • Check engine light come on?

I would start with buying a Scanguage and see what you might learn.
  • Thanks all for the replies.
I found a place that will pick it up and do the repairs Monday.

  • Please update us on what caused the problem. Maybe the info will help another member.
  • If it was me I would go buy a fuel filter and tool

to take the fuel line off. 20 minute job. The filter is under the

    Motorhome were the driver sits.

Put a new filter on today, still doing same thing.
