Help Accessing Closet Floor

last year we bought a 2006 diesel pusher, in sig. It only had twenty four thousand miles on it when we bought it. The previous owner used it a lot in the desert as do we. It ran great all Winter and Spring but we just took it north Near Death Valley and it overheated.

Atter some research we realized that we should probably clean the front of the radiator. We removed the 4 large screws in the floor of the closet but we could not lift up the floor. Any help with that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also I adjusted my shifting patterns when I was driving it home from Death Valley and it ran much cooler. However I do need to run an extension tube to the crankcase vent and clean the front of the radiator. But I can't get the floor up. The screws are removed.

  • Thanks all. I'll look for more screws and try again next time we bring it home.
  • Listen to Wolfe...he knows his stuff...

I would call Fleetwood, (ASV) and ask them if you're bent on getting the floor up. Prying it up while there are still some hidden screws there or even if it was glued in could cause some major flooring damage..not good....Dennis

Can you do a "back flush" on the system ?

Yes and NO (no being the more important).

Yes, you can clean the RADIATOR from the back.

But, the vast majority of the dirt and debris will be on the FRONT of the Charge Air Cooler.

Were you to back flush with enough pressure to blow the******off the front of the CAC, you would be bending most of the fins on the radiator.

So most of the cleaning has to be done from the front.
  • Sometimes you can crawl under the rear of the coach with a flashlight and see if there are any other screws coming through the floor, giving you an idea where other screws are located.
  • Mine sticks pretty good due to all the heat under there. I had to really use a screwdriver and wedge it a bit to get it loose...
  • Have the same problem, closet's carpet covered fiberglass hatch has 2 screws under the washer/dryer platform, 2 inside a plumbing chase and 2 in the open. Need to change the Splendide out soon due to failing drive bearing that is obsolete, will modify the hatch to a two piece at that point, so we can access all but the last 4". If the radiator needs to be removed out the top, out will come the washer/dryer and the last 4" of the hatch. I can lift the hatches on our Phaeton with a Stanley Mini-Wonder Bar, under the edge. This is a Freightliner Custom Chassis XC series.
  • Put some larger screws in just the floor. Don't go all the way through so they don't hold the floor down. Leave a lot of the screw sticking out and you can grab the head and lift the floor.
    Good luck!
  • Not sure about a back flush. For now I just need to know if there is a trick to getting the floor up.
