Help with Class C

Greetings Friends

We have been camping in a truck camper for 14 years and have loved it, but it is time to move to a larger unit. We have been at a dozen RV shows in the past year or two but are still looking for the "dream".

We are looking for a Class C that is not more than 26 feet long (in actual length - not "advertised length") as we want to do the Alaska Ferry and they hammer you on price if your unit is an inch over 26 feet. We want a "north -south walk around bed". We would prefer a unit that has driver / passenger seats which can be swiveled to add seating. Other features are negotiable.

Our camping buddies have a brand new Coach House Platinum II which meets the above description very well, but I don't have $185,000 to spend so I am looking for other options.

Suggestions?

    If you want the specific length be sure and take a tape measure. Only way to be sure. We have a 30 footer with 2 slides. At less than about 28 ft. you usually have to give up something; a walk-around bed, a dinette or a couch. Good luck.

    This is the smallest that we could find with 2 slides and a walk-around bed. Also has a 6 speed transmission and a two year warranty.

    Also, we didn't want a rear slide, because we use a hitch mounted bike rack.

    Thanks Logans. I think the unit you mentioned is more like 28 feet than 26 feet. The Alaska Ferry people are like the IRS and FBI combined when it comes to measuring length. I need to stay under 26 feet no matter what!
    But I appreciate the help and advice.

    Our View has an advertised length of 24 ft. We can actually fit 4 adults and 2 children in, and it has one slide.

    How many people do you need to accommodate?

    This is close but 2 inches too long.

    This is true, especially without a rear slide, and the reason why is not too hard to understand. To have a reasonable rear overhang and height, the rear wheel wells generally come right where you need the side aisles around the bed to be. If the motorhome were built taller, the floor could be completely over the wheels, at the expense of being tippy with an overly high center of gravity, of being pushed around more by winds and passing semis, and of having more problems with low bridges etc. If the rear wheels were placed farther forward, there would be problems with weight balance, with tail swing, and again with wind action.

    If you're willing to have twin beds with a center aisle, there are more options.

    How OFTEN are you going to Alaska on that ferry????

    Class C's are either 24 or 28/29. They used to be 31 so the older ones you find WILL be 31.

    You are going to beat yourself silly looking for just the right size MH to avoid a fee to put it on a ferry once or twice. :? What am I missing here?

    Agree with Rockhillmanor. How many times are you going to take the RV on the Ferry? I wouldn't let a couple of trips on the ferry dictate the RV I will use the rest of the time. You could always rent an RV in Alaska and avoid the Ferry system all together. BTW, we put our 27 footer on the Ferry last summer on the return leg of our trip. Good luck with your search.
