Help with entry door lock

PTL makes the complete door and PTL lock OPEN system. This is not the deadbolt on the PTL doors. The Deadbolt on Newmar and Tiffin doors is similar for that style door. Is your Scottsdale a mid entry door or is the door up front by the Passenger seat. My recollection of the Scottsdales was they were Gas models and had mid entry doors. Usually that means you may be able to use a standard Deadbolt, UNLESS the bolt is ROUND. Is the throw bolt ROUND? Is the Deadbolt part of the large Black door lock handle. IF SO, then Trimark is the likely brand. Doug

Any locksmith worthy of the name can hand fit a key to the lock. And probably figure out what needs fixing/replacing on the inside as well. If it has a standard residential style deadbolt though, like our Landau, then replacing it with one from Home Depot, etc., would likely be cheaper.

I found that Tri/mark is the company. I ordered a new entry combo lock set for less than $160.

Have you heard about lock `bumping'? If not, do a Google search to see if that technique will be appropriate for you to get the deadbolt working from the outside. Apparently, this is a favorite technique of locksmiths who often have to get into a lock without a key.
Of course, there is always the locksmith option.

Really you need to just search around for a general lock that will fit it. Look on Ebay and out of China too (Ebay). You may have to do a little grinding on the dead bolt throw. Should not be real hard.

I can't believe some places charge so much for something as simple as a lock.

Took mine apart and found that the house lock just had a small diameter circular spring that had broken. Like you, didn't have the key for the deadbolt when I bought the rig so took the entire lock assembly to a locksmith and had them cut me a key for the dead bolt.

They didn't have the spring, so I zip tied the house lock unlocked while I tried to find that spring. Used only the dead bolt for several months. Finally found the spring at an Ace Hardware.

My old Bounder, and my newer Winnie have the same lock assembly, this is a picture of the Winnie. This rig was also missing the dead bolt key when I bought it. And the house lock has a tendency to lock itself.

Because of that tendency, I've just zip tied the lock and will only use the deadbolt from here on. Just my idea on how to work around the problems many of these locks have...
