Help with replacing Class A tires:

After helping my brother look for a Class A motor home for over a year, he finally found one he likes. The deal closes this Thursday. It is a 2002 Discovery with a 330 cummins, Allison trans., two slides etc. It was checked out by a professional shop.

It will need new tires. It has Toyo 265-5R 22.5 on the front and I don't know what the heck brand of 25580R 22.5 on the back.

For those of you who know this motor home and over all experiences with 22.5 tires, what brand would you put on this motorhome? Toyo all around? I was thinking Hanooks. Looking for advise.

    Interesting. Meshes with my experience. My 05 DP came (new) with Goodyears. Always properly inflated,never jumped a curb. Had a cold tire blowout, hole size of a half dollar on the inside sidewall on the outside rear. Mobile tech looked at it and "Another bad Goodyear).

    One of our camping friends is Fleet manager for over a hundred trucks and dropped Goodyear as a tire source.

    About a year after I purchased my coach, I decided to put on new rubber. I had a friend who owned six Goodyear stores but was in the process of selling all six. I did not buy there. However, he advised me that based on his own experience observing tire failures, he would put no other tires on a coach other than Michelins. In his opinion, Michelin simply makes a better, safer, tire. So, I went wih Michelins and will replace them with Michelins next year, seven years after I purchaed them. Today, they have no cracks and I have had no problems with them whatsoever. I'll save the difference in price in other cost areas.

    If it were price I would be on some off the wall tire, just MHO but they are paying for the name and nothing more. Some folks will say to buy Michelins for safety, but I can't find anything that states it is a safer tire, or has less failures. Do your research, and get the tires that work for you be it Sumitomo, Hankook, Firestone, or whoever. Shop around, prices vary, and in some sizes I found the FMCA Program prices are still not that competitive one you throw in mounting and balancing.

    This is what most manufacturers put on 'em.. It's what I have.

    Toyo is also a good brand. Not many others I'd consider.

    Best recommendation is to look for "MADE IN CHINA" and if you find it.. RUN to another store.

    I have had Michelins on my Class C and now on my Tiffin diesel Class A. Never had a tire related problem. Buy the best, and you will likely never second guess your decision.

    First and foremost what size tires does the mfgr recommend for that unit. I doubt very much that it originally had different size tires on the front from the rear. So before you get too concerned with what tire/size find out what size is suppose to be on the unit and then go from there.

    I want to thank all of you for your reply's and advise.

    I ended up getting 4 Toyo's 265/75 R 22.5 tires, mounted and balanced at $ 420.00 per tire, total of $ 1,680.. out the door. The front two tires are Toyo's and are only 3 years old and still in very, very good condition.

    Our 2002 Itasca Horizon is very similar to the W Journey. Ours is only 32' though. We just replaced our Michelin XRVs with the same after 75,000 hard miles, from Alaska to Mexico over the last 5 years.
